Consulting my taps, the 24 threaded holes are 10-32

I can't really do anything else until the CF tube arrives - so until then

This is how I'm going to equally space the mounting holes and the four pic rails!

I picked up a bunch of 10-32 pan head bolts at Home Depot. The next time I'm in Garland I'll pick up Ferric Chloride to blackwash the heads of those bolts.

Blackwashed stainless looks awesome!

I think a blackwash tutorial might be a good addition to my youtube channel and this forum.

Today, my 50mm CF tube is officially past due.... I really want to get my hands on that tube so i can test my method to evenly space 8 lines axially. I can do the math based on 50mm outside diameter - but I have my doubts it will be a perfect 50mm. I plan on wrapping the entire thing in masking tape so I can draw on it while testing the equations.

One thing does worry me though... What if my wife gets jealous that my gun is lighter than hers? I may lose this entire upper if she likes it - I do like to see my girl happy.

IT ARRIVED!

So, some measurements before I do the math to figure out the 45 degree rail/vent/mounting hole alignments

OD: 50.1mm
ID: 46.015mm

We know the central angle is AOB and so angle AOE = ½ central angle
From trigonometry we know that the sine of angle AOE = AE/AO
So, line AE = sine of angle AOE • line AO
Using the Pythagorean Theorem line OE² = AO² - AE²
Segment Height ED = Radius AO - Apothem OE

Finished the handguard and it's awesome! Even with the heavy barrel - the rifle feels lighter without a metal handguard. It's pretty sweet!
